Developing Our People

Talent development and retention are fundamental to our continued success and we aim to provide continual opportunities for our employees to reach their full potential. At both the group headquarters and individual businesses, we hold cross-functional and cross-industry sharing, provide open training courses and offer sponsorships for job-related education. We also sponsor vocational training and internships with a wide range of developmental programs.

Sustainability

Health and Safety

Employees are our most important asset and we take great care to provide safe and healthy working environments, ensuring our people have the training and equipment they need. As a company managing steel, property, energy, distribution, healthcare and mining operations, our safety policies and practices are robust and continually upgraded to maintain industry-leading, injury-free workplaces. We have built a strong safety  culture where everyone is encouraged to remain vigilant against workplace risks with regular safety training, inspections and emergency drills.

Supporting Our Communities

We believe in giving back to the communities that support our development and have a rich tradition of community service. Across our operations, we leverage our unique business capabilities to donate time, goods and services to those in need.

In mainland China, our businesses have joined China’s national efforts to help eradicate poverty. In our Special Steel business, we sponsor educational initiatives for young people in low-income families and supports the growth of local small businesses. We have invested millions into local communities including Jiangyin, Yangzhou, Jingjiang and Qingdao. In Hong Kong, we support a wide range of community initiatives, sponsorships and activities through our CITIC Pacific and DCH volunteer teams.

Caring for the Environment

As part of our sustainability efforts, we are continually increasing our efficiency. We aim to realize low carbon development by moving away from carbon-based energy, minimising waste and reducing our resource consumption by encouraging innovation and adopting green technology.

Over the years, we have made substantial investments in our systems and facilities to reduce energy usage and industrial outputs such as exhaust or wastewater. In our special steel and power plants, for example, we have developed ways to convert wastewater, heat and sludge into clean energy. In our property business, we use the latest technologies and materials to enhance building efficiency, such as solar panels and high efficiency appliances to reduce our carbon footprint and long-term operational costs. At DCH, we have been a long time supplier of electric vehicles and continually improve the fuel-efficiency of our in-house fleets.
